In an effort to inform and to clarify some of the misperceptions about the Morristown Parking Authority, (many of these misperceptions are not limited to Morristown, but, apply as well to other municipalities) we would like to provide you with just a few facts about the Morristown Parking Authority:
There are 700 on-street parking spaces as compared to 2,500 off-street parking spaces, therefore, we encourage you to take advantage of the available off-street-parking spaces.
Additionally, there are another 2,500 parking spaces privately owned, and available to the public.
There are 13 parking lots and 2 garages strategically located throughout the Town. Far more parking than is available in many other neighboring towns.
The Parking Authority takes no pleasure in issuing parking tickets. Significantly, the Morristown parking Authority does not receive any revenue from parking fines, nor is the Parking Authority subsidized by taxes. The Morristown Parking Authority is working for you without using your tax dollars.
Parking meter regulations are enforced to ensure turnover of parking, thereby maximizing the availability of on-street parking.
There is no quota system for the number of parking tickets issued by the Parking Authority's parking enforcement officers. Enforcement of parking regulations helps traffic to move smoothly, keeps loading zones clear for the intended purpose and reduces congestion.
The Parking Authority is fully self-supporting, relying solely on revenues received from parking receipts to meet its obligations with respect to debt service requirements, personnel, maintenance, utility cost, insurance and meeting present and future parking needs.
