Morristown Welcomes You!
About Morristown
Since the birth of the nation, Morristown has been a crossroads of culture and commerce. Morristown National Historical Park (Washington’s Headquarters, Fort Nonsense, Jockey Hollow) was the first in the country. Morristown is the seat of Morris County and home to northwest Jersey’s only regional trauma center. Downtown wakes up with early morning exercise classes and sidewalk cafes and stays lively late into the night. Even visitors to Morristown Medical Center take advantage of the mixed-use business district, with its 141 restaurants, 20 bars, 9 coffee shops, award-winning 1,302-seat Community Theatre and upscale 10 screen cinema.
At just 2.8 square miles, Morristown’s distinct residential neighborhoods and downtown condo’s and apartments are home to 18,000 residents. All are walkable to downtown, centered on the Revolutionary-era Morristown Green. Morristown’s prime location brings some 22,000 workers and 106,000 drivers into the area each day, supporting local businesses. 96% of the town’s 1M square feet of retail space is occupied, mostly by small business entrepreneurs. New retailers include Athleta, Blue Mercury, CVS, GameVault and Whole Foods. The downtown has over 3,500 public parking spaces managed by the Morristown Parking Authority. The historic train station abuts the Lafayette Avenue garage for the public and for riders of NJ TRANSIT’s Midtown Direct Morris and Essex line.
Morristown is connected to the beauty of the region by picturesque country roads. A short bike ride away are well-loved Morris County Parks such as Lewis Morris, the Traction Line Recreational Trail and Loantaka Brook Reservation. The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is close by as well.
Diversity is one of Morristown’s greatest strengths. In 2014 Morristown completed a new Moving Forward master plan to define its path forward: “to become the most welcoming, beautiful, healthy, resilient, and sustainable place to live, work, and play in New Jersey.” Through the tireless work of citizens and leaders, Morristown is realizing its goal.
