CLASS II SPECIAL POLICE OFFICER – Morristown Bureau of Police
The Morristown Bureau of Police is currently seeking professional and qualified applicants for the position of Class II Special Police Officer.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting daytime and early evening foot patrols within the central business district; performing traffic control and parking enforcement; staffing special events; working third-party overtime assignments; and performing other related public safety duties as assigned.
Enhanced foot patrols within Morristown’s central business district are intended to strengthen public safety, increase police visibility, enhance the overall quality of life and downtown experience, and promote meaningful community engagement. The Class II Special Police Officer will play a critical role in advancing these objectives and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for residents, business owners, and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Applicant must be a retired law enforcement officer under the age of 65 who served as a duly qualified, fully trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county within the State of New Jersey, or as a member of the New Jersey State Police, and was separated from prior service in good standing within three (3) years of appointment to this position.
- Applicant must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position in accordance with Police Training Commission standards.
- Applicant must possess a New Jersey Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification or New Jersey State Police Academy Certification and meet all licensing requirements of the New Jersey Police Training Commission.
- Applicant must possess a valid New Jersey Driver License.
- Applicant must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological examination.
Compensation & Schedule
The salary range for the Class II Special Police Officer position is $32.50 – $40.00 per hour. This is a part-time position, with a maximum schedule of up to 32 hours per week.
