ABOUT
The Morristown Shade Tree Commission (STC) consists of 5-7 voting members and 2 alternates. Members must be residents of Morristown and are appointed by the Mayor. is a volunteer commission with terms of 5 years. The Shade Tree Commission was established to ensure the appropriate management of the Morristown community forest. It has responsibility for the regulation, planting and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery located in the Town of Morristown on public property. The Commission will assist the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning Board and/or Building Department in an advisory capacity when applications involve the preservation and inventory of trees within the Town. Critical objectives for the Shade Tree Commission are outlined in the Morristown Community Forestry Management Plan (CFMP) and attaining “approval status” for the town with NJ Shade Tree and Community Forestry Assistance Act. The CFMP is updated every 5 years. Implementation of the CFMP includes activities such as tree planting and maintenance, tree care disaster planning and hazard management, public education, awareness and outreach. The STC works closely with the Town Administration, Morristown Department of Public Works, and a certified arborist to accomplish these objectives. Individual STC members are Core trained during their tenure through the Rutgers Urban Forestry Program.
TOWN TREE REMINDER
The Morristown Shade Tree Commission reminds residents that all trees in the Morristown right of way or on Morristown property, such as public parks, need to be attended to by the designated Morristown Tree Crew. Morristown residents are not authorized to prune or have an outside tree company attend to town-owned trees.
